WBII member Natalie Harrison made the courageous leap from secure employment to exciting self-employment. Here’s what she has to say about the experience so far:
When I reflect on the year 2008 it’s right up there as one of the best; it was the year I transformed my passion into my full-time job. It was a big change of direction and being totally new to self-employment I joined the WBII to expand my knowledge and share ideas with other successful entrepreneurs, in the hope of making the transition a little less daunting. It took a lot of hard work to get to where I am right now, but it has also been exciting, a lot of fun and a very rewarding and enriching experience too. I’ve photographed so many wonderful clients, and met so many beautiful families. I feel so lucky to be doing something I love so much.
If I were asked to describe myself in just three words, ‘creative’ would most definitely be top of the list, perhaps followed by ‘organised’ and ‘determined’. Yet I chose a career path that was more of a technical nature, and as a consequence, pushed my natural creative energy aside.

In my spare time I was using web design as my creative outlet but when I bought my first dSLR camera and joined a local photography club, a whole new world opened up to me. Quite unexpectedly, I discovered something I loved with my heart and soul. I thought long and hard about pursuing photography as a career, and the decision to leave a successful career in IT Security was not an easy decision to make; but I was certain that if I was going to do this, to follow my dream, I was going to go for it 100%.

Find your passion and do it. Everything else will follow.
