In the realm of self-improvement and personal development, confidence often takes centre stage. It’s praised as the key to success, the quality that
propels individuals forward in their pursuits. Yet, lurking in the shadows, there’s another trait that carries equal, if not more, significance:
worthiness.

Confidence and worthiness are frequently conflated, but they are distinct concepts with different implications for our lives.
While confidence is the belief in one’s abilities and qualities, worthiness delves deeper into the core of one’s being – it’s about recognising and
embracing one’s inherent value, regardless of external achievements or validations.

Confidence may come from accomplishments, skills, or external affirmations. It can be fleeting, fluctuating based on circumstances and
experiences.

Worthiness, on the other hand, is an unwavering sense of self-acceptance and acknowledgement of one’s intrinsic worthiness as a human being. It
transcends achievements and failures, anchoring individuals in a profound sense of belonging and acceptance within themselves.

Why is being worthy so crucial?

Firstly, worthiness forms the foundation of self-esteem and resilience. When we believe we are inherently deserving of love, respect, and success, setbacks and rejections lose their power to shake our core. We bounce
back stronger because our sense of worth isn’t contingent on external factors.

Secondly, worthiness fosters authentic connections and meaningful relationships. When we recognize our worth, we’re less likely to seek
validation or approval from others. This frees us to engage in relationships based on mutual respect and genuine connection, rather than
dependency or insecurity.

Furthermore, worthiness cultivates a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Instead of chasing external markers of success to prove our worth, we can
pursue endeavours that align with our values and passions. Our actions stem from a place of authenticity rather than a need for validation, leading
to a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

In contrast, an overreliance on confidence without a foundation of worthiness can lead to a fragile sense of self. External validation becomes a
crutch, and setbacks can shatter the illusion of confidence, leaving individuals feeling lost and inadequate.

I came across a significant understanding of the difference between self- worth and self-confidence. Once you identify this it can change the
trajectory of your life. Jamie Kern Lima highlighted in her book “Worthy” the following differences, which I am pleased to share here – AND it may
help you to understand and see the differences between both:

Self-confidence is believing you´re skilled enough.
Self-worth is believing you ARE enough.

Self-confidence fluctuates based on your environment.
Self-worth is stable through every environment.

Self-confidence is fragile.
Self-worth is foundational.

Self-confidence is the belief in your abilities as a person.
Self-worth is the belief in your value as a person.

Self-confidence is “I´m striving to earn love”.
Self-worth is knowing “I am love”.

Self-confidence gives your drive.
Self-worth gives you peace.

Self-confidence is optional.
Self-worth is essential.

Self-confidence eventually surrenders.
Self-worth ultimately prevails.

Self-confidence is the house you build on top of your self-worth.
Your house will only ever be secure as the foundation it´s built upon.

How can we cultivate worthiness?

I would like to invite you to practice self-worth and I am happy to share 5 very effective methods:

1. Practice Self-Compassion:
Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to a dear friend. When faced with self-criticism or feelings of inadequacy, pause, and remind yourself that you are deserving of love and compassion, just as you are.

2. Set Boundaries:
Establishing healthy boundaries is essential for honouring your worth and protecting your well-being. Learn to recognize when your boundaries are being crossed and assertively communicate your needs and limits to others. Remember that saying “no” when necessary is not selfish; it’s an act of self-respect.

3. Celebrate Your Achievements (Big and Small):
Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how insignificant they may seem. Whether it’s completing a project at work or simply getting out of bed on a difficult day, every achievement deserves recognition. Keep a journal of your successes to remind yourself of your capabilities and resilience.

4. Practice Mindfulness:
Cultivate awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without judgment. Mindfulness allows you to observe negative self-talk and limiting beliefs without getting swept away by them. Through mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or body scans, you can develop a greater sense of self-awareness and acceptance.

5. Surround Yourself with Positive Influences:
Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you in embracing your worthiness. Seek out relationships and communities that encourage
authenticity, vulnerability, and mutual respect. Limit your exposure to toxic environments or individuals who undermine your self-worth and drain your energy.

By integrating these tips into your daily life, you can cultivate a stronger sense of self-worth and resilience, allowing you to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and grace.

Please be conscious that practising self-worth is an ongoing journey.
