We ask our members to share a few thoughts: to introduce themselves to fellow members, and those who are interested in our community.

In this installment, we interview Aleksandra Vakovska of Art Café V.Art By AV.

Tell us about your business:
My business is an art project, a mixed concept of original art pieces, art classes & coffee. I came up with the idea of an Art Café for people who want to be creative, buy art supplies in a relaxed environment, do art classes or simply have a good time.

What 5 words would you choose to describe your business?
Creative, unique, complex, fun, relaxing.

What are your most popular products or services?
My most popular service is the Sip & Paint Classes I offer every Friday and Saturday evenings. Aside from that, I offer art supplies & original art pieces.

What do you like best about owning a business?
I like the creativity and freedom it gives you. It is amazing to do something on your own time and terms, it is liberating to know that everything you do is a product of your 100% effort, love and determination.

What or who inspired you to start your business?
My mother inspired my business as she is an artist in her free time. I was thinking about what do young girls and women would like to do in their free time (after university, work, house chores, watching over family, etc.) – then it came to me that a relaxing space for study/work involving both art and coffee would be the most amazing thing to have.

What makes your products/services special?
I found a gap in the market, as there is no other place that offers Sip & Paint classes where people start from scratch. No pre-drawn figures, no pre-colouring, no pre-marking – a blank canvas, a drink and an amazing evening full of laughter, fun and creativity.

Who is your role model or mentor?
My role model is every woman who is financially and socially independent, every woman who wakes up every try and gives her full efforts to make it in life. Every woman is a superhero in her own way – a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer, a housewife, an assistant, a sales assistant, a restaurant staff, etc. – literally every woman is amazing in her own way and I feel can be used as a role model in life.

What advice would you give women who are starting a business?
Start with a business plan that covers every possible angle/aspect of your new business. Find that gap in the market and fill it. Find a good lawyer and a good accountant, you’ll need all the help you can get. Connect with other small business owner and asks questions, don’t be afraid to ask for help.

What is your motto or theme song?
My motto is: “You have to know that as long as you love who you are – your morals, your values, that type of things – you’re OK.” My theme song is Moment 4 Life by Nicki Minaj feat. Drake.

What do you care most about, as a business owner?
I care about the satisfaction of my clients. I want my clients to leave V.Art feeling good about themselves, relaxed and happy with their paintings.

Thank you Aleksandra!
