In this instalment, we interview Anja Vreeburg of Flowently.
Tell us about your business:
Flowently is a new concept to learning Dutch. We offer live language sessions with a private tutor. No more boring classroom lessons but meet up with your tutor in a cafe and learn what is useful to you in a real life context. We teach from level A0 to C2 and our sessions are available 7 days a week from 8AM to 10PM, 200 tutors in 100 cities in The Netherlands. We offer session at your office and online sessions as well. What 5 words would you choose to describe your business?
Flexible, practical, customized, social and fun language teaching.
What are your most popular products or services?
Learn to navigate daily life and blend into local culture with our 30-hour discount package. Online courses for individuals and groups.
What do you like best about owning a business?
To express my creativity, continuous improvement.
What or who inspired you to start your business?
The wish to create my own style and to be independently.
What makes your products/services special?
Our USP : our unique live language sessions, internationals do not only learn Dutch but will be guided into Dutch culture, customs and their new hometown as well.
What motivates you on a daily basis?
The miracle that is called life on earth!
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
Surviving bank crisis, housing crisis, corona crisis.
What advice would you give women who are starting a business?
Go for it! Women should develop a strong and sustainable leadership/business style. Don’t copy men, but create your own unique long-term vision and strategy.

What are your top tips for networking?
Not my strongest point, word of mouth works best.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Workaholic, I do my best to walk 5 km each day.
What is your motto or theme song?
Make reality your best fantasy!
How do you relax?
Long walks on the beach.
What place inspires you and why?
Sahara desert, Namibia desert, quiet impressive landscapes make me feel deeply connected with myself and the world.
What do you care most about, as a business owner?
Happy clients, happy co-workers, interesting products, quality.
What are your future plans?
Start up Flowently in Zurich and Lissabon.
Are you involved in any charities?
Yes, I believe in giving back to society, in one way or another. Right now I coach a refugee who’s learning Dutch and wants to start an education in health care. I support her in preparing for the one year course to become an assistant and in coping with the challenges that come her way. Very rewarding.
