We ask our members to share a few thoughts: to introduce themselves to fellow members, and those who are interested in our community.
In this instalment, we interview Beatrice Betley of Larossa BV
Tell us about your business:
I am a composer, producer, sound designer and vocalist. I create music, edit audio and teach others how to write music with DAW (Digital Audio Workstations).
What 5 words would you choose to describe your business?
Creative, divers, musical, inspiring, international
What are your most popular products or services?
My Music. Examples (with video)
What do you like best about owning a business?
The flexibility
What makes your products/services special?
Music connects. There is nothing else that has an equal impact. Music creates the emotion in a film, can find the right customer for your product or service, makes you recognisable. Think about an exclusive jingle or sound for your podcast, per example. Listeners will know it is you before you even said a word!
Who is your role model or mentor?
Ella Fitzgerald (inspiration) Bobby Owinsky (mentor) Friedeman Tischmeyer (mentor)
What is your biggest fear?
People seem to think music is for free. It is not. It is an art, a craft, a business.
What motivates you on a daily basis?
I love what I do.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced?
To be honest – that people seem to think music is for free.
What advice would you give women who are starting a business?
The only glass ceiling there is is in your head. Ignore what you were told.
What is your favourite business book?
I don’t have one.
What are your top tips for networking?
Focus on the person you are talking to. It is about connection – not sales.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Work/ life what??? This is what I once heard: If you work long hours and you hate what you do, it is called stress. Iff you work long hours and you love your work it is called passion. Luckily I have a husband that supports me.
What is your motto or theme song?
If you only do what you have already done you will only get where you have already been!
What place inspires you and why?
Nature.
What are your future plans?
I am starting an online course and masterclasses to teach passionate musicians how to write music using DAW was a tool. Focussing on the inspiration, the soul of a song rather then the technology. I am also working towards my second vocal Jazz Album.
Are you running any offers or promotions that you would like us to mention?
Dear writers of the WBII (and I know we have a few!) contact me to turn your work into an audiobook! It is a huge market!
Thank you, Beatrice!
