We ask our members to share a few thoughts: to introduce themselves to fellow members, and those who are interested in our community.
In this instalment, we interview Beth Farris of Beth Farris Consulting
Tell us about your business:
Hey there! I believe the key to success is a clear vision, strong foundation, and intentional action. So as a Business Clarity Mentor, I help you clarify your unique brilliance, identify your niche, refine your business model, and craft a compelling message. This foundation, together with a tailored marketing plan, creates a consistent flow of clients.
I offer 4-month private mentorship programs for both beginners in business and more experienced business owners. And I often say it’s like bringing on a business partner, given the high level of creative input, personal and strategic support you receive.
Entrepreneurship can be a lonely and daunting journey when you walk that path alone. However, with greater clarity and a mentor by your side, you can unlock the full potential of your business and brand, feel more confident, and attract more clients.
What 5 words would you choose to describe your business?
Demystify, illuminate, guide, boost, encourage
What do you like best about owning a business?
Feeling empowered and autonomous after leaving the corporate world. Feeling free to express myself, make decisions, and create impact in my own way… in a way that feels aligned with my strengths, personality and values. And then of course, helping others do the same!
What motivates you on a daily basis?
There are several sources of motivation and inspiration, but one source is my clients. I feel so fortunate to get connected to a diverse range of people through my business. People who are curious, talented, empathetic, inventive, and care deeply about what they do. I get to learn about their life path and passions. About their unique area of expertise and competitive landscape. It’s like getting a free masterclass!
What advice would you give women who are starting a business?
When you’re starting, keep in mind there is value in both strategy and visibility, in both clarity and taking action. Visibility won’t yield results if you’re not clear on the who – what – why – and how of your business. What are you selling? Who are you serving? What is your unique approach, vision, value and message?
So get focused, but be flexible at the same time. Be willing to change, adapt, and grow because your business and brand will never stop evolving. Don’t get distracted by get-rich-quick hacks. Success takes time and work, no matter what magic pill or shiny solution people try to sell you. You don’t need predatory sales or trendy marketing tactics either. Instead, go all in on being human, build relationships, show people you actually care about their problems and goals, and consistently give value.
What are your top tips for networking?
If you’re planning on attending an event, try connecting with attendees both before and after the event. Practice different ways of talking about your business. Can you tell a 30-second story about a current client or project? Can you share your unique point of view or approach? That is more interesting and memorable than just stating what you do.
If you’re a nervous networker, bring a friend to the event, and remember – you’re not alone in feeling uncomfortable 😉
Thank you Beth!
