In this instalment, we interview Sinead Hewson of TpEBO (Time Poor Experts and Business Owners).

Tell us about your business:
I Help experts and creatives thrive in business. TpEBO works internationally with organisations, businesses & teams in the middle of change and seeking high performance. I help clients clarify their thinking so that they focus & take action using a mix of experiential, coaching, consulting and research techniques. I also design facilitation style programmes & frameworks which can be delivered in-house, remotely or by other providers globally.

What 5 words would you choose to describe your business?
Service, validated techniques & outcome based

What are your most popular products or services?
Facilitated strategy, scoping & problem-solving progammes; Conflict resolution; High Performing Team; mentoring.

What do you like best about owning a business?
Choice

What or who inspired you to start your business?
I was MD of an agency and I was asked to approve a photo for publication. I did not recognise myself in the picture.

What makes your products/services special?
Authenticity, critical thinking and opening up opportunity.

Who is your role model or mentor?
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.

What is your biggest fear?
Not being able to provide for my family – more of a niggle than a fear.

What motivates you on a daily basis?
My daughter.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
Recognition as business professional in a foreign country.

What advice would you give women who are starting a business?
Trust your self; be ambitious and learn from peers

What is your favourite business book?
Book yourself Solid (Michael Port)

What are your top tips for networking?
Be selective, hunt in pairs, be yourself.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Sleep, separate my work space from the family space, lots of water, fresh air, good food and switching off at the end of the day.

What is your motto or theme song?
Be true to your self

How do you relax?
Swimming, walking, music, food, theatre

What place inspires you and why?
Tate Modern -bringing art into an industrial space and into communities. Challening perceptions on what art is and where it sits in society.

What do you care most about, as a business owner?
Serving my clients, completing projects to a higher standard than expected, making a profit and making a positive difference.

What are your future plans?
I am building a company which works with experts and creatives to help them thrive, My focus is on (i) research PhDs and we aim to increase the completion rate of PhDs from marginalised groups (ii) we will also build on our work with creatives, experts and business owners who are scaling up (their businesses, practises, galleries) so that they succeed, are financially independent and impactful leaders.
